Some people feel the Nook is better than the Kindle 3.   Amazon has thus far refused to come out with color, so Barnes & Nobles clearly has the upper hand here.  What about other features, head to head?

First I will point out that Kindle had the lead in the weight/portability department, and as to price.  Now that’s changed because Barnes &Noble lowered their price of the Nook .

Nook wins.  Nook Color is  1024 x 600 pixels, while Kindle is 800 x 600 pixels.   Latest update:  with its July release, evidently Nook has some improvements. Where B&N hits one out of the park: Its page refresh rates and speedy page turns.   It has reduced the flashing between page turns (by about 80%)
